Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell is by far one of my favorite illustrators of all time. His work inspires a lot of what I do, he was the man. The first image above was done as a study from one of my favorite Rockwell paintings. I tried to see how close I could come to the original painting with watercolor . . . wasn't easy, but turned out decent enough.

The second image was a self portrait that I did, total Rockwell influence, and yes the guy on my right is for real! His name is Lupe, a big dude but a true sweatheart, he couldn't hurt a fly. Oh wait, that's not true, once he accidentally sat on my mother in law's parrot and squashed the life out of him. True story.

do u remember how much shit kennedy gave you for painting this so small?

Not really? He gave me a hard time, because he thought that Rockwell's work already looked like watercolor (I disagree) so it wasn't that big of a stretch . . . I think it's funny that mine was one of the only peices that actually looked like the original. :)

You make it look easy! super

Thanks Tim, but you must know, it's not easy, working with watercolor is a touchy thing, easy to mess things up, but such a great feeling when a piece is pulled off well!

Ever make the trek to Stockbridge, Mass., to the Rockwell Museum? It's totally worth the trip. His originals have so much power in person. His artistry is untouched and no reproductions do his work justice (especially since so many of them are huge).
